Those of you who know what this instrument is already know of its worth. It has been used for countless funk songs in the 70s and has no equal.
"Superstitions" or "Higher Ground" by Stevie Wonder
"Sanford and Son Theme" by Quincy Jones
"Trampled Underfoot" and "In The Light" by Led Zeppelin
"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" by Pink Floyd
among many others...
Enough of the accolades surrounding the instrument in general.
This particular clavinet is in great shape for being over 30 years old. There are no cigarette burns, no cracks, no loose wires or bad electronics. It has the original white knob and mute lever cover. It has seen some usage--there are some nearly invisible pits and nicks in the wood, but nothing major or catastrophic. It comes with the screw-on legs (try finding these on Ebay!) and sleeves for the legs, a flathead screwdriver for tuning the strings (yes, you have to tune it once in a while! It is a real stringed instrument!), and a rugged cover with handles. It is a heavy instrument--I do not recommend coming over by yourself to pick it up--you will need help.
A clavinet with cigarette burns and nicks to the wood sold recently on Ebay for $1300. Mine is in supremely better and cleaner condition. Cash or PayPal only.
Those of you who play Persian music will appreciate the fact that the Clavinet can be tuned to other, more exotic scales. Think of it as an electric santur playable with keys! It would make an awesome addition to a Middle Eastern/World Music group.
There is nothing like the original D6 Clavinet. There are many synths and samplers who try to get its funky tones, but the real strings and the keys have a vibe all their own. Crunch it through a phaser or a fuzz box and be in FUNK HEAVEN!!! The response of the real strings to the keys cannot be reproduced using synthesis.
