DUTIES: Landscape Technician works independently, plans/assigns daily work to crews; plant landscape plants per plans; operate power equipment such as tractor, loader, bobcat, trencher, boring tools, blowers, rototillers and dump trucks as necessary; make quantity decisions relating to soil amendments and fertilizers. Installs entire sprinkler systems. Work includes retrofitting existing systems and replacing and installing plastic pipe, galvanized pipe and copper pipe. Replaces and installs new heads. Performs gardening duties to maintain project areas after completion. Reads plans and blueprints and does field planting and irrigation design. Relocates utility boxes, installs pedestals and irrigation controllers. Runs electrical power conduits with direction and input of electricians. Installs drainage and header board as needed. Interfaces with other shops to discuss specific project needs. Provide recommendations for treatment of landscape problems; provide instruction to new or staff. QUALLIFICATIONS: Must be able to recognize and recommend solutions to landscape problems encountered while completing projects. Recognize and recommend improvements to the landscape where needed. Must have experience in directing crew members. Must have knowledge and experience in operating landscape equipment including tractors and loaders, knowledge of equipment operation involving grading sprinkler installation and repair. Ability to climb and work from a stepladder, ability to withstand excessive standing stooping, squatting, pushing and pulling. Must be able to follow detailed job-related instructions; ability to lift up to 100 pounds. Must be able to work in all weather extremes, pollen and dust irritants. Must know and apply the safety standards established by the university. Will be required to work overtime and weekends as schedule dictates.
