Engineering at Vontu
Our Engineering department is small but growing, and is exceptionally strong. It is strong both because of the experience and talents of individuals, and because of a culture of cooperation, mentoring, learning and focus on team success. Our product incorporates an unusually wide set of technologies: we work in areas of information retrieval; genetic, statistical and learning algorithms, natural language analysis; fast classification and content inspection of network protocols; application level network infrastructure; distributed multi-tier enterprise applications; high volume databases; and human computer interaction. We do not pigeon-hole people; most of us like to work on various areas of the product and in various technologies, and it makes our team agile. We are true innovation leaders--with each release of our product we apply for several patents, and everyone in engineering contributes. But ultimately what drives us is solving real problems of our customers.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure and maintain test lab servers
- Configure lab switches, routers, taps and other networking equipment
- Apply system, third party updates and patches as required
- Allocate hardware for Development and QA tasks as appropriate
- Set up processes and/or develop tools to refresh lab systems
- Develop and maintain web enabled system to communicate system usage and availability
- Work with the QA, Development and IT Managers to define lab needs and required purchases
- Create user, DNS records, IP networking, mailboxes and other accounts
- Test and write update instructions for third party updates as necessary
- Evaluation and testing of servers and other lab hardware
- Liaison to third party data center and Vontu IT
- Assist in recruiting personnel
- Responsible for lab improvements
Required Technical Skills
- BSCS or other technical degree or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of hands-on lab management experience in a software development environment
- System administration level knowledge in Linux and Windows
- Sufficient coding and scripting skills to develop tools and automate lab processes
- Strong knowledge of routers, switches, taps, NAS/SAN and other networked systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Sufficient SQL skills to write basic SQL queries, Oracle 9i experience desired
- Experience working in a startup environment
- Experience supporting software development environments
- Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills
