I guess at my age, old memories tend to pop up now and then. Recently, I've had this same old memory bugging me, so I thought I'd just toss it out there. See if anyone has old memories, too?
My grandmother, wonderful old Greek lady she was, used to live near Golden Gate Park around 25th Ave. I used to go spend the weekends with her at least once a month, usually twice a month. Our big adventure, as she didn't have a car, was to take the muni to the grocery store. Although it wasn't far, it was hard for my yiayia to get around much. The store, I believe, was a Safeway, but not the new one they built on the old Playland property. Somewhere over the other direction...
There was this young man that was a cashier at this grocery store, and I had THE BIGGEST school-girl crush on him. He wasn't very tall, but oh-so handsome! I used to spend the days in between my visits to the city thinking and dreaming about that store cashier.
I lived on the coastside, near El Granada. I spent many hours on my horse riding all over the place, which was a safe thing to do in those days. I swear...one day this little volkswagen bug, which was a cool car to drive back then, pulled up near an intersection where I was riding, and who got out of the car? My dream-man-store-cashier! I was speechless! He said he recognized me from my store visits with my grandmother. We spent some time chatting that day...
Just thought if you once worked in a grocery store in SF around 72-73, and drove a vw bug, you'd like to know that I had the BIGGEST crush on you...
