| storytoday, a startup, all-volunteer, video-format online world news program, is looking for more cast and crew. Please have a look at our website, http://storytoday.tv, to see our existing product.
Volunteers for our show need to be able to come down to our SOMA studio one or two nights a week for several hours starting at 7pm. Currently, for each of our episodes, we have had approximately five people on camera and five people behind the camera. Again, our group is a startup with no revenues or funding at the present time, we are seasons away from establishing a payroll, money should not be your primary motivation to work with us at this moment.
We need people who can help with any of the following and more:
* Reading stories on camera
* Motion and still graphics
* Video compression/editing/uploading
* Story writing/editing
* Ad sales
* Audio mixing
If you're interested in any of these- or can think of any other ways you could or would like to help, please read on further and then- after watching at least one of our episodes online- contact us at jobs@storytoday.tv
* Reading stories on camera
If you would like to be one of our newscasters, please send a .jpg photo and a bio/resume in the text of an email to jobs@storytoday.tv. Realistically, you should have some sort of journalist self, whether that was writing for your school paper, or working in any capacity at a news agency of some kind. You should be able to source, write or edit your own stories; we will ask you to do just that if we pick you for an audition. We have one teleprompter for our anchor desk, and the rest of our cast reads from printed notes during the shows.
* Motion and still graphics
We need people to drive images and video samples during our live tapings. This involves collecting and editing content relating to our stories for the day in the hours leading up to the shoots, and then being able to play this content on demand as the stories are being read by the cast. Also, we need people to create designs and libraries of brand-related content for our shows, backgrounds, websites, etc. You should have an interest in using or learning the following kinds of software: flash, after effects, keynote, photoshop, 3D software, final cut, etc. Also, realistically, things work much better if you have your own laptop with S-video out; people are more comfortable on their own hardware. We do have gear you can use if you don't have any. If interested, email us: jobs@storytoday.tv
* Video compression/editing/uploading
Our shows are between twenty and thirty minutes long. Digitizing, compressing and uploading these files is an intense process. If you would like to help with our file management, awesome! We need help with our current encoding process, and, also, in testing/adding other formats for our audience. If you have an extreme interest in acronyms like MIME, MOV, WMV, RSS, MP4, FTP, SWF, and would like to help out, contact us! jobs@storytoday.tv
* Story writing/editing
If you would like to help source, write and edit stories for our show and can work in our existing style/format, please email story@storytoday.tv. We prepare our stories for the shows here: http://storytoday.tv/news/frameset.html ...please have a look at the length of the stories and the types of subject matter we cover. We cover a lot of global politics, tech and online news, and a small amount of entertainment news. You should be able to write quickly. We share our stories via email and web. HTML skills/interest a HUGE bonus, especially if you can maintain the url listed in this paragraph.
* Ad sales
We have no revenues for payroll at this time and can work on a negotiable, commission-only basis with ad sales people. Our shows have room for video ads and title slide narrated ads; read more about the kinds of ads we can run here: http://storytoday.tv/ads.html. Let's negotiate and close some sales! Email ads@storytoday.tv
* Audio mixing
During our shoots, we need someone at our audio mixer actively adjusting volumes during the taping. Audio sources include lavalier mics for the on screen cast, and also audio from laptops driving motion graphics. Recommended that you have a background in bands or DJing or recording studios; some kind of audio mixing experience. You should have a knowledge or interest in learning how to plug in all the cables needed for our audio portion of the show. You should be able to sound check all of the audio sources repeatedly in the hectic moments leading up to the start of taping. Also, there is plenty of room for sound design and scoring our shows; any skills you have in this area are a huge bonus. Email jobs@storytoday.tv
If you're interested in more than one of the above ways helping our team, you're what our team is looking for; currently a lot of us are doing more than one of these tasks. Looking forward to hearing from you.
