THE JOB:
The Eros Guide needs a strong multi-talented software applications/web engineer to be a part of our technical team. This is a key developer position in an established, profitable, privately held web company.
Our technology projects include a broad range of interesting challenges including:
Supporting internationalization of our ad content for locales around the world
Tighter integration with custom-developed search technology
Growing our core website offerings into new areas of business, such as ecommerce and syndication
Using XML to increase the number of ways the company publishes its content
Significantly expanding the feature sets of existing internal applications with our external website presentation
You will be joining a ten person, tightly integrated engineering team split between our two offices. Because of the companys small size, the engineering team plays a large role in the development of the business strategies and plans. This is a unique opportunity for a person who can jump in fast and contribute ideas as well as programming expertise.

We have web sites open in over 35 areas throughout the US, Canada and Europe with many more planned over the next year. The Eros Zine ( http://www.eros-zine.com ) is an award winning online magazine of erotica that is one of a number of companion sites we operate.
You can think of us as the Internet yellow pages for nightlife and adult services. In fact, the yellow pages and local magazines and newspapers carry the same type of advertising.

THE REQUIREMENTS:
3+ years Server-Side Java Development
3+ years Object Oriented design and development
2+ years SQL Relational Database experience
Practical real-world web database schema design experience
Experience using a Java application server (Tomcat, Resin)
Experience with HTML, JavaScript, XML, and regular expressions
Experience applying Design Patterns, in particular the MVC Framework pattern
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work well with non-technical people
Experience developing for Linux and Microsoft environments
Solid experience developing with open source solutions
BS in Computer Science or related field
OTHER USEFUL SKILLS:
PHP, PERL
J2EE, JMS, JavaMail, XSL
Experience with various template engines
Understanding of cross platform web compatibility issues
THE CANDIDATE:
Minimum 3+ years professional working experience on the Internet
Ability to work independently and proactively.
Ability to problem-solve and brainstorm in a team-oriented environment.
Experience working with short-term deadlines with little supervision
Be a solid developer and a critical thinker who enjoys solving some of the more advanced challenges of web based applications
Will have the freedom to use leading edge technologies as long as the deliverables and the deadlines are met.
