Description Nonprofit public health organization seeks part-time (20 hours/week) Information Specialist (IS) to support eight projects in its Oakland office. The IS will act as the systems administrator, maintaining maximum uptime and security, with a focus on supporting Microsoft Windows and Exchange 2003 workgroup collaborative enterprises. This position is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the internal and external windows network functions. The IS also coordinates projects, including long-term network and workstation upgrades, and provides training to staff on IT topics. The IS uses established work methods and innovative approaches to complete assignments, including:


Workstations/Servers/Printers Support
• Monitors, troubleshoots and resolves server performance, networks, email (Outlook 2000/2003) and desktop solutions.
• Fine-tunes workstation and server performance and security.
• Maintains MS Exchange-based email services.
• Maintains thorough system backups.
• Repairs and upgrades Windows 2000/XP and Mac OS X operating systems.
• Installs and configures new systems and printers, maintains current platforms of internal servers and networking equipment.
• Conducts end user training.
• Implements networking solutions, including routing, firewall rules and switching.
• Maintains VPN using a Cisco router.
• Maintains antivirus software for workstations and servers.
• Maintains patch management for workstations and servers.
• Provides additional support for Mac (OS X) systems.

Others
• Handles vendor relations, procurement and supply chain functions for IT needs.
• Provides information to clients on the capabilities and limitations of available software systems.
• Manages user accounts and shared files.
• Implements security policies and standards.
• Maintains fax, printer, copier, conference room hardware, and phone system.


Requirements: Two to three years experience administering Exchange Server 2003, Windows 2003 AD servers, Cisco routers, and Microsoft Windows Based Environment. Two to three years experience supporting Windows 2000/XP workstations and MS Office 2000/2003 Pro. Strong understanding of TCP/IP LAN, WAN and VPN technologies. Proficiency with Windows 2003 Active Directory and Exchange 2003 administration, performance tuning, monitoring and account management. A record of proactively monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining server systems. Experience with Mac OS X and with using Macintosh computers in an Exchange environment. Strong customer service orientation, with excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills. Ability to learn new software quickly and apply learned information to new situations. Associate Degree or Technical School Certification or equivalent experiences.

Starting salary: $20.88 per hour with excellent benefits. The position is open until filled.
