Stanford University currently has an excellent opportunity available for an experienced professional to take responsibility for the formal negotiation and administration of sponsored research and collaboration agreements and Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs). You will also be expected to advise and assist others at Stanford regarding material transfers and industry sponsored projects and serve as a Stanford contract officer with signature authority for MTAs, collaboration agreements and sponsored research agreements valued at up to $500,000. Your caseload will vary, but typically includes 60% sponsored research and collaboration agreements, 30% material and human tissue agreements and 10% other related agreements. As the outcome of these negotiations affects Stanford's programs, personnel and industry research relationships, your maturity and judgment in handling highly sensitive situations within the context of legal constraints, time constraints, Stanford policies and a variety of conflict of interest issues will be key to your success.
This opportunity requires a self-starter with a college degree, preferably in science, engineering, business or pre-law studies, experience negotiating and interpreting contracts, and an understanding of industrial contract administration and research policies in an academic environment. The ability to provide high quality service in a fast-moving, action-oriented, customer-focused service environment is essential, as is exceptional analytical, organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills. An understanding of intellectual property and licensing issues that pertain to industry sponsored research is also necessary, along with an understanding of the role of confidential information in such agreements, property issues such as vesting of title to and accountability for tangible property, and financial and institutional accounting policies, procedures and capabilities.
