QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education: There is no diploma or degree requirement. However, consideration will be given to persons with education in the Social Sciences field.
B. Experience: Two or more years experience in providing and maintaining a home-like setting for others, e.g., a family, foster home, or group home. Experience with people with a mental illness is preferred.
C. Personal: Ability to relate well to others, to work on many projects simultaneously, and to be empathetic, warm, firm, stable and supportive with clients.
D. Physical Requirements: Physically capable of the following intermittent activities: stretching, bending, kneeling, twisting, squatting, reaching above and below the shoulder, pushing, pulling, grasping and lifting up to 40 pounds in weight. Physically capable of the following intermittent activities: driving, writing, standing and sitting.
DUTIES: Duties are performed at the residents’ home.
1. Provide support and guidance with residents in a manner that emphasizes acceptance, yet supports and responds to residents’ needs and readiness for growth and assumption of increased responsibility.
2. Participate in program planning and help implement program goals.
3. Provide crisis intervention and crisis management services.
4. Assure that medications are refilled in a timely fashion so there is a continuing supply.
5. Assist and supervise residents taking prescribed medications.
6. Be aware of the general physical health of residents, and assist with scheduling of, and transportation to, medical appointments.
7. Monitor and assist residents with issues involving SSI, MediCal, pharmacy and rent bills.
8. Assist residents with personal hygiene, room care, laundry, etc.
9. Help plan, implement, support and encourage resident involvement in all areas of home care, socialization, recreational outings, and activities of daily living.
10. Help facilitate, plan, and implement social, recreational and other groups and outings, meetings and activities.
11. Plan, prepare, and serve 3 nutritionally balanced daily meals, and daily snacks.
12. Shop for groceries weekly and properly store groceries or supplies in cupboards, refrigerators and storage areas.
13. Perform general housekeeping and maintenance tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, dishwashing, mopping and disinfecting floors and bathrooms, replacing light bulbs, etc.
14. Remain aware of general mood and tone of the residents and act in a manner responsive to the situation.
15. Provide assistance to residents as requested.
16. Generally act as a positive role model.
17. Keep current notes in resident's charts, log book and other similar sources of information.
18. Participate in regular staff, house, shift change, and supervision meetings.
19. Remain on premises overnight as assigned, available to clients in urgent situations.
20. Remain with clients as assigned, whether in the house or on an outing, until relieved by another staff member.
21. Participate in the maintenance of a positive, safe, open and cooperative environment in the RSSs and throughout Buckelew Programs for both clients and staff.
22. Other duties as assigned.
