| We are seeking a full-time, ~40 hours per week caretaker for our mansion in Los Altos Hills. This is a live-in position in a cottage on our spacious, park-like property. Tasks: Errands; light housework; project management; manage staff - gardeners, cleaners, housekeeper, pool guy, fix-it people, etc; some childcare for 3 children; flower arranging; feeding/caring for 2 dogs; etc. Technical ability a plus: ability to learn & manage home systems like pool heater & cleaner, front gate programming, audio/video, lighting, etc. Requires energetic, smart, self-starting, organized, flexible person with excellent people skills. You need to have a demonstrated ability to see & solve problems - like messes that need to be cleaned-up, light bulbs that need to be replaced, implementing routines to keep the house running smoothly, etc. We want someone in the position who can navigate between managing people and getting her hands dirty - in other words, this is neither a pure management job, nor a pure labor job ... it is both. Demonstrated childcare ability is also key - we have a teenager and two children in gradeschool, and they experience all the normal ups and downs of childhood - so compassion, creativity and ability to set limits are all key. The staff that is currently on-site are good, honest, smart and hard-working people who care about each other and about our estate - "fit" with this group will be important. We strive to make it a wonderful working environment. The hours of the job are somewhat flexible due to babysitting on evenings (1-2 nights per week) or weekends (we travel occassionally). Salary is negotiable but we are thinking $35,000 per year starting, with a possible raise after 6 months (we are willing to pay more if you have demonstrated experience). Position includes furnished cottage with phone and utilities; car; and use of pool, spa, workout room. Non-smokers only, no pets. Happy people & maturity are a must.
