Honest transmission repair shop! (not AAMCO!!)

Title Honest transmission repair shop! (not AAMCO!!)
Category Cars & Trucks, Etc. : Foreign : Toyota
Created 03/15/06
Description Friends, I'll try to be breif. True story.

The folks at
Automatic Transmission Center
5620 Mission St
San Francisco, CA 94112-4299
(415) 337-8800
Saved me over $2000. on a transmission repair to my car, by properly diagnosing it, unlike 2 other shops that looked at it, and who I believe just wanted to sell me an expensive, uneeded repair (or at the very least were totally incompetent in their ability to assess the problem).

I am writing to recommend Automatic Transmission Center, they are real mechanics, honest and trustworthy too I beleive. If you need a second, or first opinion regarding a transmission repair, talk to Rich there: (415) 337-8800.

Need more details? AAMCO and the TOYOTA dealer both failed miserably at finding the real problem (which was just 2 bad shift solenoids, easily found by looking at the engine error codes, and knowing anything about a cars transmission)
AAMCO charged me $100 for a bad diagnosis, caused a leak in the transmission during their "diagnosis", used all kinds of transparent salesmanship tactics, and proposed it would be $3000. to rework the tranmission (unless they found further damage once inside, which I have no doubt they would have). The Toyota dealer claimed it could only be a bad transmission, and very expensive. (I had researched it on the web, and realized it coud be an electronic problem, or a solenoid problem)
Well, $900. later, its working perfectly with 2 new solenoids, a new filter and fluid. O yeah, a new pan gasket! Good for another 150k miles I bet.
Many thanks to the good folks at Automatic Transmission Center, (415) 337-8800.
I hope this saves some people from AAMCO (on PINE), the dealer (Vaness) and sends a few people to Automatic Transmission Center for some good honest work by real mechanics.
