POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the director of marketing and communications, the graphic designer designs print and online materials in support of the Office of Development's marketing efforts. Examples of print projects will include annual reports, proposals, brochures, invitations, direct mail pieces, advertisements, and invitations, among other types of collateral. Examples of online projects will include art direction for Web sites, flash e-mails, and HTML direct e-mail templates. Although the graphic designer will occasionally be called upon to create original designs, he/she will largely work within design and branding guidelines established by our contracted design firm. The graphic designer will be responsible for procuring printers, including requesting and assessing bids and managing all aspects of production. The graphic designer will work closely with project managers/writers, as well as outside vendors, including designers, illustrators, photographers, and printers.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 90% Design - Collaborates with staff members on design new projects and/or updates. Determines print and vendor specifications. Provides complete, electronic files. Proofs art and photos through the color separation process. Reviews bluelines and color proofs; presschecks when necessary. Provides design/support for online projects. 10% - Creative/Technical Resource. Participates in brainstorms for future projects and programs. Discusses the successes and failures of past projects. Keeps up-to-date on technology skills and design trends.
QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in graphic design. Five plus years of professional experience. Ability to start with a creative brief, produce multiple creative concepts that meet stated strategy, and perfect those concepts through production. Proficient MAC OSX skills using Quark Xpress, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Working knowledge of Flash and Dreamweaver a plus. Excellent writing, interpersonal and time management skills. Must be very detail oriented. Familiarity with Stanford University is helpful but not required.
