FIRST GRADE TEACHER
Cathedral School For Boys is currently seeking a first grade teacher for fall 2006. The first grade teacher is responsible for teaching language arts, math, science, and social studies in a self-contained classroom of 24 boys with the aide of an assistant teacher. In addition to lesson planning and whole-group/small group instruction, the first grade teacher is expected to differentiate the curriculum and accommodate students with specific learning needs. Weekly parent newsletters, trimester report card narratives, and collaboration with colleagues are also expectations. The first grade position is full-time, beginning August 2005. Professional development funds are also available for workshops and conferences throughout the year.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year institution and a minimum of three years teaching experience (five years preferred);
- A strong curricular background in kindergarten, first, or second grade;
- Experience implementing a balanced literacy program that includes systematic and explicit phonics instruction;
- Experience developing a differentiated, student-centered multicultural curriculum serving a wide range of abilities, learning styles, and multiple intelligences;
- Experience creating a nurturing, mutually respectful environment;
- Effective classroom management, assessment, and organization skills;
- Experience collaborating with other teachers in a team setting; and
-Excellent written and oral communication skills with students, parents, and faculty
