Executive Director Position
$51,500 to $60,000 depending upon experience

Third Street Community Center (TSCC) seeks a dynamic, motivated, and passionate individual as its Executive Director. We are looking for an individual who demonstrates leadership a team-builder and works collaboratively with staff, colleagues, TSCC families, and the broader community. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, successful fundraising experience, and be a critical-thinker and a creative problem solver. Most important, TSCC seeks an Executive Director who has heart and spirit and works well in a grassroots organizational environment. The responsibilities of the Executive Director fall into four major functions:

Administrative Responsibilities
 Articulate TSCC vision, mission, and successes to the broader community;
 Take initiative and be proactive in all aspects of the organization;
 Establish and successfully manage the budget;
 Oversee the development, continuity, and integrity of TSCC programs;
 Hires, trains and provides on-going support and motivation for all program staff and ensures that project based learning practices are defined and maintained for all staff and volunteers responsible for the delivery of this TSCC “trademark” service model
 Ensure development and maintenance of “best practices” in organizational record keeping and database collection/retrieval;
 Identify volunteer opportunities and ensure excellent supervision of volunteers;
 Engage in short-term and long-term planning with staff and Board of Directors;
 Routinely analyze organizational structure and provide “fresh” ideas for organizational improvements;
 Submit timely updates/reports to the Board.

Fund Development Responsibilities
 Research funding opportunities and write grant proposals;
 Assist Board in developing annual fundraising strategy and plan;
 Submit timely evaluations and additional reports as required by funders;
 Establish on-going relationships with current and potential funders, including Church members;
 Provide strong support in TSCC fundraising events, including Share the Magic;
 Ensure ongoing coordination of funding opportunities or losses with TSCC budget
 Submit timely funding and budget updates/reports to the Board.

Community Relations/Communications
 Serve as key spokesperson for TSCC;
 Act as the primary role model and motivator for staff, parents, and children of TSCC;
 Strengthen and establish linkages with all core program and funding partners, including Horace Mann School, the Tech Museum, SJSU Service Learning, First Unitarian Church, Mexican American Engineer Society (MAES), Hispanic Foundation, City of San Jose, etc.
 Establish and maintain effective internal and external communication practices (especially with individual donors and funding organizations;
 Serve as primary link to First Unitarian Church members especially those members actively supportive of TSCC;
 Identify opportunities to highlight TSCC programs to broader community;
 Identify potential programmatic collaborations with similar organizations;
 Oversee maintenance and content of TSCC webpage;

Board Relations
 Initiate on-going and effective communication with board members, particularly board president;
 Establish ongoing meetings with board president;
 Attend monthly board meetings and provide monthly materials and board action items in timely manner;
 Assist in recruitment and orientation of new board members.

Qualifications

1) Education and Experience
• Must have completed a BA or BS degree
• Two years progressively responsible experience in non-profit leadership or management role
• Successful grant-writing experience
• Successful fund-raising experience
• Experience with delivery of educational programs and curriculum development
• Experience in successfully recruiting and managing staff & volunteers
• Experience in managing non-profit budgets
• Experience in effectively establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with diverse multi-cultural groups

2) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly desired
• Knowledge of principles of elementary school educational programs development, including project-based leaning
• Basic knowledge of introductory ESL and computer class curriculum
• Knowledge of principles and practices of non-profit management and grant writing
• Proficient in MS Word and Excel
• Strong leadership, organization, communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent management skills
• Ability to work independently and exercise judgment with little direction
• Dynamic with strong marketing, sales and/or communications experience.
• Demonstrated concern for and capacity to work in support of economically disadvantaged and/or minority communities.

About the Third Street Community Center (TSCC)
The TSCC is an innovative provider of Whole Child – Whole Family – Whole Neighborhood services to the largely low-income and limited-English speaking population of Downtown San Jose near St. James Park and Horace Mann School.

Our services include the Don Edwards Computer Learning Academy, ESL and the signature After School Academic Program (ASAP) which is a project-based learning after school program for elementary school students. TSCC is housed at The First Unitarian Church in downtown San Jose.

Our primary funders to date have been the Packard Foundation, the City of San Jose, eBay, Microsoft, Adobe, State Farm Insurance, the Valley Foundation, labor unions, and members and affiliates of the First Unitarian Church. Our primary annual fundraiser is the Fall Magic Makers Reception at The Tech Museum. We also receive two substantial anonymous gifts each year.

TSCC has also established several major service delivery partnerships including: The Tech Museum of Innovation, Horace Mann School, CityYear, San Jose State University and Mexican American Engineers and Scientists (MAES).
