[Objectives]

Having earned my Masters degree in physics and with my doctorate in Applied Physics Engineering soon to be awarded, I am ready to enter industry in a challenging position that would make use of my educational background. I am interested in RF, engineering design and application engineering. I prefer a position that offers a mix of personal interaction and computer work.

[Qualifications]

Design and modeling of innovative high frequency vacuum electronic devices, including:

- Millimeter wave extended interaction klystron amplifier.
- Magnetron Injection Gun for a 94 GHz Gyro-TWT.
- Pierce Gun for a Ka-band klystron.
- Coupler for a millimeter wave TWT.
- Innovative and miniature slow wave TWT structures.

Strong understanding of electromagnetics, vacuum electronics theory and design techniques, and plasma physics.

Knowledgeable and very experienced with RF electromagnetics simulations tools, trajectory codes, and Particle-In-Cell codes, including, HFSS, ADS, SUPERFISH, EGUN, MAGIC 2D, and MAGIC 3D.

Multiple publications and technical presentations

[Education]

Ph.D. (March 2006)
Department of Applied Science, University of California, Davis

- Advisor: Prof. N. C. Luhmann, Jr.
- Emphasis: Design and modeling of microwave and millimeter wave vacuum electronic devices, electromagnetics, and RF Technology
- GPA: 3.85

M.S. (June 2001)
Department of Physics, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan

- Advisor: Prof. K. R. Chu
- Emphasis: High frequency RF device modeling

B.S. (June 1999)
Department of Physics, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan

[Experience]

Post Graduate Research Engineer (September 2001 - Present)
Department of Applied Science, University of California, Davis

- Studied under the U.S. DoD Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative Program Consortia on Innovative Microwave Vacuum Electronics

- Designed and modeled a high frequency, wide band width, and high power Ka-band EIK (extended interaction klystron) for satellite applications, including use of 3D particle-in-cell simulation tools, in collaboration with the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.

- Responsible for the design and modeling of the magnetron injection gun (MIG) used in a W-Band (94 GHz) gyrotron traveling-wave tube amplifier (Gyro-TWT) developed for long-range, high-resolution advanced radar applications. This MIG has been successfully built and significantly contributed to the performance of this state-of-the-art 94 GHz Gyro-TWT.

Research Engineer (September 1999 - June 2001)
Department of Physics, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan

- Designed and modeled the input coupler for W-band gyro-TWT in collaboration with the University of California, Davis. The device has been built and demonstrated excellent results.

- Optimized and modeled an EIA (electronic industries alliance) coaxial window in collaboration with the BESSY facility in Germany. The device has also been built and demonstrated excellent results.

Teaching Assistant (September 1999 - June 2000)
Department of Physics, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan
