POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Assesses clients’ educational needs, teaches classes in literacy, maintains educational records and assists clients in developing educational plans.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Case Management Supervision: Administers standardized educational testing to all clients. Scores and interprets test results. Assesses each client’s educational needs based on test scores and individual interviews conducted during the client’s orientation phase of treatment. Makes recommendations for client to participate in other educational or supportive services based on test scores and interviews. Offers advice and assistance to clients around education and training opportunities. Teaches any combination of the following based on need: reading, writing, math, life skills or computer skills. Assists as need in computerized learning lab. Facilitates client links to external educational services. Participates in case conferences with other vocational and clinical staff where appropriate.

• Program Development Responsibilities: Provides assistance in development and implementation of educational services. In collaboration with other staff, develops services that link educational planning with the larger goal of economic self sufficiency for individual clients and the program as a whole. Performs offsite outreach with community-based organizations.

• Research Responsibilities: Researches outside program models and funding sources for education and training programs serving very low income, unemployed and working adults. Develops, plans and implements educational modules (group instruction, workshops, discussion groups, etc.)

• Administrative Responsibilities: Maintains accurate client files in accordance with CARF and departmental standards. Documents significant client activities.

• Gets along with others and work as part of a team
• Attends weekly education component meeting and monthly all staff meeting

• EDUCATION KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• BA in Education or related field
• 2 years experience working with adult learners
• Strong background in Math and Science
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Mastery of MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Internet
• Knowledge of diverse, disadvantaged populations with multiple barriers to educational and vocational success, including low literacy, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and impaired cognitive functioning
• Knowledge of GED completion procedures and requirements, adult basic education skills assessment tools, community college systems, and Bay Area Community Based Organizations preferred
