REPORTS TO: Executive Director

REQUIREMENTS
· Baccalaureate degree or equivalent education and experience with excellent writing skills
· Pattern of progressively responsible professional experience
· At least 5 years successful fundraising and communications experience at mid-to-senior level
· Experienced at donor database management

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
· Professional training in fund raising methods, major gifts solicitation, grant development, annual campaigns, and donor and prospect cultivation
· Experience with event management
· Experience with media relations and corporate solicitation
· Environmental or community fundraising experience, preferably in the San Francisco Bay Area

RESPONSIBILITIES
· Prepares and implements an annual plan for raising charitable funds for NPC
· Conducts informational research on funding prospects, and prioritizes prospects based on ability and propensity to make donations to the organization; this includes corporate, foundation, individual, and governmental prospects
· Develops individualized cultivation plans for selected prospects
· Enlists all appropriate volunteers and staff for each prospect's cultivation and relationship management process
· Develops grant proposals for foundation and corporate support, and for local, state and federal government support as appropriate
· Coordinates fund raising events throughout the year
· Prepares and submits timely grant follow up documentation and reports to funders, as required
· Ensures that all donors are properly thanked and recognized through acknowledgement letters, thank you notes, and phone calls
· Supervises donor databases, ensures accurate and timely updates for revenue management
· Plans and conducts donor recognition and cultivation activities throughout the year
· Issues regular press releases to appropriate media about the work of NPC
· Develops relationships with media representatives and environmental, business, health and community reporters in order to further awareness and coverage for NPC
· Monitors publications for coverage of NPC and maintains a “clippings” record of media placements
· Makes presentations to community groups and civic organizations about NPC and its work
· Strengthens and maintains a comprehensive media contact list
· Maintains an awareness of what is taking place in the community in order to create opportunities for NPC to be involved in appropriate activities, including partnerships and collaborative opportunities
· Interacts with board members and staff on a regularly basis to further the fund raising and communications goals of NPC
· Contributes to a positive teamwork with fellow staff and Board members
· Other projects and duties that may, from time to time, be assigned by the Executive Director

· SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Strong interpersonal communication skills
· Understanding of media practices and procedures
· Strong prospect research and negotiating skills
· Strong written and verbal skills
· Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, donor database,)
· Good design sense for organizational collateral (graphic skills a plus)
· Ability to make effective public presentations
· Ability to directly manage staff and to work as a member of a team
· Strong attention to detail and time management skills
· Ability to “close” gifts (salesmanship & relationship-building ability)
· Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
· Ability to problem-solve
· Ability to develop and write effective grants, and generate grants reports

Irregular hours may be required
Salary commensurate with experience
