POSITION: DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
The San Mateo Medical Center Foundation is seeking an experienced professional to serve as the Director of Development.
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Development Director will assist in planning and management of the final phase of the San Mateo Medical Center Foundation’s Capital Campaign. The Development Director will assist in staffing the Capital Campaign Committee, the Board of Directors and other fundraising volunteers involved with the Campaign and ensure the accuracy as well as timeliness of prospect, donor and volunteer communications. The Development Director will assist in implementing campaign plans to successful conclusion and ensure all internal systems are in place relating to: donor prospect identification and cultivation; grant activities from research to writing and reporting; events from concept to flawless execution, and marketing and public relations.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
1. EVENTS: Responsible for management of all Foundation events such as annual golf tournament, donor recognition dinner, on-going cultivation events, educational series and campaign wrap-up celebration.
2. GRANTS: Head all grant activities, research foundations, write applications, on-going communication and cultivation, follow-up reporting.
3. MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS: responsible for marketing strategy, collateral development, website content, quarterly newsletters, and public relations.
4. MAJOR GIFTS: Create and maintain prospect research, tracking and cultivation program for major gift prospects. Closely collaborate with capital campaign consultant, and Executive Director to identify, cultivate and solicit potential major donors.
5. DONOR STEWARDSHIP: in conjunction with the Executive Director and the County Board of Supervisors, develop and implement donor and volunteer recognition policies.

The mission of the SMMCF is to help meet the financial challenges of the San Mateo Medical Center in its commitment to provide quality healthcare to all residents in our community, including the uninsured and working poor, and to raise awareness of the positive achievements and significant work of the Medical Center. The Foundation recently launched the public phase of a $12 million Capital Campaign, with $9 million of that amount already committed from grants, individual donors, mail appeals and special fundraising events.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor degree required with a minimum of 3-5 years professional fundraising experience in the Non-profit sector and/or related work in marketing in the private sector
2. Strong organization and communication skills and a self-starter
3. Commitment to the mission of Public Health
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills
5. Strong computer skills including Word and Excel, knowledge of
Raiser’s Edge a plus
6. Strong interpersonal skills
7. Collaborative team player
8. Creative mind, capable of coming up with new and fresh ideas to open new opportunities for Foundation
9. Ability to multi-task
