Breast Cancer Action is a national grassroots non-profit organization that conducts education, community organizing, and advocacy in pursuit of true breast cancer prevention, safer, more effective treatments, and universal access to quality health care. BCA is seeking a full-time Development Associate to join a fast-paced but friendly office doing challenging and rewarding work.
Development
Donor Relations/Database Management: enter donor & gift data into Donor Perfect database; process and acknowledge gifts; send pledge reminders; respond to donor inquiries; prepare reports for staff and Board
Annual Campaign: prepare donor data and supporting materials for fundraising mailings and campaigns; act as liaison with BCA vendors, including designers, printers, and mail house; provide information and support to Board members and volunteer solicitors
Institutional Giving: maintain grants calendar; research prospective foundation and corporate funders; respond to inquiries from companies wishing to establish partnerships with BCA
Create and implement administrative systems as needed to ensure the smooth functioning of the development program; maintain supplies of development materials
Assist with major gift initiatives as assigned.
Perform other duties as needed
Event Coordination
Respond to requests from individuals, companies and organizations wishing to hold events to benefit BCA; negotiate terms of agreements
Recruit, schedule, and supervise volunteers for BCA events, house parties, and other fundraising benefits
Manage additional aspects of benefit events including publicity, logistics, and liaison with event hosts/producers
Occasional weekend and evening work required
Office Administration
Open and distribute mail
Answer phones and support Office Coordinator in responding to information requests
Provide additional administrative support as needed
Qualifications
1. Minimum one year of nonprofit development experience, including event coordination and database management
2. Fluency with Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, and fundraising software (Donor Perfect or similar)
3. Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with good organizational skills
4. Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
5. Understanding of and commitment to womens health issues from a feminist perspective
Compensation
The position is full-time. Benefits include medical/dental coverage, three weeks vacation, and flex-time option.
