SUMMARY As a member of San Francisco
Symphony’s IT team, this position is primarily responsible for supporting,
administrating, and maintaining SQL Server 2000 environments running on Window
2000/2003 platforms. The position will also be responsible for conceptualizing
and implementing software solutions, developing and maintaining software
applications, and some SQL programming. Reports directly to the Chief
Information Officer. Works closely with Symphony’s Programmer Analyst,
and Systems Manager.
SPECIFIC
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for maintaining defined day to day
operating procedures for SQL Server databases
- Trouble-shoot database problems as
required
- Install new server-based application software,
upgrades, and fixes in coordination with Systems Manager
- Enroll users and maintain system security; account
management
- Control and monitor user access to the
database
- Plan, prepare, and test backup and recovery procedures
for all production databases
- Monitor production databases for efficiency.
Periodically reorganize databases for optimal performance during scheduled down
time
- Perform ad hoc SQL programming
- Write codes for database access, modifications, and
constructions including stored procedures
- Participate in application development processes to
facilitate good database design and access
- Support IT programmers and resolve database
problems
- Produce user and system documentation for all the
newly installed and/or developed applications
- Learn other database and programming tools/languages
as the need arises
- Assist in training the staff on database software
applications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a college degree. A Computer Science degree
is a plus
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in SQL
database administration
- Knowledge of Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 networking
environment a must
- Minimum 2 years of SQL programming
experience
- Experience with Symantec and NSI Backup Software a
plus
- Knowledge or experience with disk storage sub-systems
or SAN
- Knowledge or experience with MS-Access based
applications a plus
- Project management skills and experience a
plus
- Experience with other databases and programming tools
a plus
- Must have strong verbal and written communication
skills, and have the ability to communicate technical information to
non-technical personnel
- Must have strong problem solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to meet objectives and deadlines
within budgetary constraints
- Personal commitment to a positive, helpful attitude
and a willingness to assume a wide variety of assignments
- Demonstrated interest and/or experience in non-profit
organizations, particularly performing arts a
plus
