Job Title: Cost accountant manager
Department: Finance
Location: Logistic center, Oakland, California
Exempt Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt


Summary: the cost accountant manager will reengineer and animate the cost accounting function within Benefit Cosmetics LLC.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The job will go through 3 phases (timetable to be defined).

1. Review of the current cost accounting procedures
a. Determine the current cost accounting procedures and methods through an in depth diagnostic (partnering with Finance, Operations and external consultants).
b. Map the current production costs (direct/ indirect/ overhead) of the production/ distribution facility, ensuring the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of all cost accounting data. This includes assessing rules and procedures for the process and coordinating information from other functions such as labor and burden rates.
c. Review adequacy of the current standard cost methodology with GAAP.
d. Review and make recommendations to assure reasonableness, correctness, completeness and Management understanding of the review.
2. Implementation of new cost accounting procedures
a. Based on conclusions (c.f. supra), applies new (if necessary)/ modify principles of cost accounting to conduct studies which provide detailed cost information not directly supplied by general accounting systems.
b. Prepares product annual standard costs. Plans, directs, and coordinates the annual Standard Cost Roll.
i. Manage the “cost of non conformance” within the facility – reporting excess cost/non-conformance
ii. Manage budgets within departments – creating reports by group segment.
c. Prepares periodic report comparing standard costs to actual production costs
d. Plays a key role in inventory management to include inventory aging and turns, improving inventory accuracy, coordinating excess and obsolescence reviews
e. Prepare monthly variance analysis (under/ over absorption costs)
f. Prepares month end schedules (on inventories) and monthly Cost Closing Entries
g. Participates to the Physical Count Inventory Adjustment Program

3. Animation of the cost accounting function
a. Business partnering with manufacturing/ operations to ensure the development and production of timely and relevant performance indices (DOI, counting accuracy….)
b. Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products.
c. Once the Company has implemented a “business intelligence software”, prepare monthly Sales and Gross Margin Reports by channel, by family and product line.
4. Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.



Qualifications:

• Detail oriented and organized
• Curious, inquiring, questioning, can "fill-in the blanks", logical thinker.
• Ability to prioritize and work under pressure
• Independent, strong personality. Can evaluate policies and enforce procedures.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral
• Utilitarian "get it done" approach to job performance.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel)
• Strong understanding of general ledger chart of accounts.
• Good understanding of the relationship between information flow, the general ledger and relational database information system used by the company
• Good understanding of the production process and manufacturing fixed and overhead costs.
• Good understanding of inventory control and management.
• Retail experience preferred but not required
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or relevant field with MINIMUM five years experience, in a manufacturing environment, including a good knowledge of general accounting, financial analysis, and forecasting.
