DESCRIPTION
Mills College, an independent liberal arts college for women with graduate programs for both women and men, is recruiting for a full-time Cook for the Residence Dining Hall.
This position will prepare and cook a wide variety of foods following standard recipes to achieve required taste and appearance standards and assists in other food service areas. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Preparation of hot and cold items and other main dishes for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner service and special events.
Arrange cooking schedule and storage of cooked items to assure proper temperature of hot foods at preparation or serving time.
Operate a variety of standard kitchen utensils and equipment such as ovens, grills or fryers, electric mixers, slicers, choppers, and other cooking equipment as assigned.
Clean kitchen equipment, utensils and appliances and store food supplies. Comply with kitchen sanitation and safety procedures.
Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum three years large quantity cooking experience in hotel, restaurant or college food service.
Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of cooking and food preparation methods, both hot and cold; standard commercial kitchen equipment; utensils and measurements.
Ability to work flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends
Ability to adapt and calculate recipe extensions for up to 500 portions, and to coordinate several cooking projects at the same time. Submit requests for supplies and equipment as needed.
Ability to work safely and follow health and sanitation requirements; HAACP/Serve Safe certificate preferred.
Ability to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 50 lbs. and stand on hard surfaces for prolonged periods of time.
Basic English communication skills, including comprehension of both oral and written directions.
Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team to meet deadlines.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and maintain effective customer service towards all persons contacted during the course of job performance.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships within a diverse and multicultural environment
Ability to comply with the Colleges Injury and Illness Prevention Program
SALARY: $13.00 per hour, plus an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/ltd insurance/403b retirement plan, vacation and sick leave plus 13 paid holidays. Staff also receives free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is also available after an introductory period.
