Customer Service Representative/Adoption Counselor
Starting salary is $11.62/hour plus benefits. REQUIRES weekends until 6pm and weekdays until 7pm.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Maintain a positive and educational approach when dealing with the public, the staff, and volunteers. Counsel and work with the public on issues relating to animal welfare.
Handle all front counter transactions, which include, but are not limited to the following: animal handling/adoption counseling, cashier duties, work heavily with public both in person and on the phone, general info request, and general paperwork. This position also covers switchboard duties daily.
REQUIREMENTS
-- High school diploma or GED
-- MINIMUM of 1-year Experience in customer service arena, face-to-face customer interaction EXPERIENCE PREFERRED.
-- Ability to work with and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with the public, staff and volunteers
-- Strong customer service skills
-- Ability to show maturity and good judgement, and perform the job in a professional manner
-- Must work well under pressure to resolve potentially emotional customers or escalated situations
-- Demonstrate a friendly, open, professional demeanor
-- Physically capable of handling/controlling large-breed dogs

Dispatcher
The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA is currently searching for a Dispatcher for our Field Services Division. The position currently pays $11.96/hr plus benefits. This position is a full-time position that REQUIRES weekend, holiday and irregular work. The position reports to the Sergeant of Field Services and is a Non-Exempt, Union position.
Summary:
To operate dispatch system: answer calls and requests for service in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization and the Field Services Division
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Receive, dispatch and monitor service requests from the public, and other PHS/SPCA departments in priority and in accordance with established procedures.
Determines priority, nature and location of emergency and non-emergency calls and status of officers on and off assignment.
Maintain awareness and contact of numerous field officersˇ¦ activities and provide such assistance as necessary to ensure adequate safety and completion of the duties.
Process, maintain and/or distribute records, including but not limited to mail, quarantines, complaints, daily activity/statistical reports, and citations.
Prepare statistical reports and service reports as required.
Operate a two-way radio in a professional manner.
Process mail for the department including certified or insured mail
Answer questions and advise the public regarding animal welfare issues, ordinances, quarantines, adoptions and other animal laws and related issues.
Assist in the training of new staff and volunteers
Provide assistance to other departments as assigned
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure a positive public image, enhance the operation of the organization and improve the quality of life for animals

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
1-3 years of dispatch experience in a high-call volume environment
Familiarity with ˇ§10 codes
Familiarity with the geography and street system of San Mateo County
Some knowledge of the principles involved in the operation of radio, telephone, and related communications equipment
Ability to operate radio, computer and telephone equipment quickly and accurately under heavy-load conditions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid California Drivers License.
