it's an environmental camp, so no pets are permitted.
each site has a picnic table, fire pit, and food locker, with clean but primitive restrooms and piped drinking water nearby, not to mention a lovely view of the Pacific and access to the Steep Ravine trailhead & the rest of Mt. Tamalpais State Park.
it's two miles south of Stinson Beach, around the 11.05 mile marker on Highway 1. if you're lazy and don't want to cook, you can walk 2 miles or drive for 5 minutes and eat in Stinson Beach.
only one vehicle per site is permitted past the locked gate, EVEN FOR UNLOADING--i have seen people getting $314 tickets for breaking this rule, and they were not happy!--and sites are limited to five people, though this particular site has room for 2 huge or 3 good-sized tents.
these sites are very popular--we made this reservation six months ago--so act fast if you want to take this rare opportunity to camp at steep ravine w/o planning and getting through to the reservations line at 8 a.m. on the first of the month six months in advance.
