A small research company that investigates, isolates and eradicates mold, asbestos, micro particles in commercial and residential property, as well as a criminal forensics division. 150 employees, revenue of $22MM in fiscal year just ended in January 2006.
Budget Analyst (01/2006-02/28/2006) Contract Position
Putting together a budget for the company by division (three), locations (five), departments (eight), showing the direct and indirect charges of IT, HR, Acctg and Corporate Execs.
SBC Communications, Network Software Solutions, San Ramon, CA 2004-2005
The NSS division develops software for SBC’s television cable, internet and telephone services to consumer and business clients. The program I was working on, FTTP (Fiber-to-the-Premise) was to integrate the three lines for phone, cable and internet into one cable. The FTTP program had approximately twelve separate interconnected projects to be managed.
500 + employees.
Budget Manager (11/2004-11/2005) Contract Position
Monthly review of actual results as compared to budget, modeling, planning, scheduling risk analysis for labor, reviewed capital labor charges to ensure they met guidelines for capital vs. expense labor, reviewed hardware and software capital acquisition budget of $16MM to determine difference between proposed and actual.
Reduced labor budget from $15MM at start of year to $6MM at project end through reviewing actual labor by month vs. forecasted and then making reductions based upon actual labor used. This reduction in labor was done with no reduction in functionality or change to the SOW.
Calculated differences between proposed hardware budget of $4MM and actual charges, resulted in savings of approximately $400,000.
Sony Electronics, Systems Integration Center, San Jose, CA 2000-2002
This division of Sony designed and connected systems of electronic equipment for national clients like CNN, ASKY, CBS, Celebrity Cruise ships and Disney as well as local television stations. These were large capital expenditures of $3M to $50M. Revenue of this division was approximately $125 MM. 200 + employees.
Business Analyst/Project Assistant (2/2000 – 2/2002) Contract Position
Managed internal and external projects, responsible for contract review, developed project budget, created change orders, managed equipment inventory, produced monthly reports for tracking project actual to budget and explained variances to senior mgt., PM experience with modeling, planning, risk analysis for labor and material. Tracked project budget and actual
expenses, PO delivery date, material receipts, labor hours/dollars per budget and actual, travel receipts over all projects in this period (approximately 15 projects).
Created labor tracking spreadsheet, saving $500,000 in under funded labor costs.
Brought in $1.5 M in revenue by satisfying customer issues on Williams Communication project.
Instituted new procedures for closing Iowa Public TV projects to generate $750,000.
Devised new tasking procedures to reduce un-billable rework on intra-company jobs, reducing rework from 20% to less than 2%.
Manufacturers Services Limited, San Jose, CA 1998 - 2000
Contract printer manufacturer. Using an HP facility in San Jose, MSL manufactured HP printers, with HP providing the materials, MSL provided the labor to assemble the materials into a finished product. The family of printers MSL assembled was 10-12 at any one time, with new models constantly replacing retired models. The materials provided by HP were separate sub assemblies of plastic casings, toner cartridge and the printer engine. The labor assembly time was anywhere from 30 seconds for the very small basic printers (retail $100) to 10 minutes for the large standing printers (retail $3000). Revenue of this location $125MM. 75 + employees.
Financial Analyst (7/1998 to 01/2000)
Revenue recognition, budgeting, oversight of all financials, weekly billing to client for printers completed, developed monthly revenue forecasts and calculated monthly NVV-AVV for scrap reports, set-up and managed vendor accounts, prepared purchase orders and processed A/P via integrated system (BAAN).
Reduced revenue forecast variations from 15% to less than 5%.
Decreased calls from suppliers from average of 10 per week to less than 1, with prompt payment of invoices.
Through teamwork with engineers, reduced manufacturing scrap from 10% to less than 2%.
Awarded commendation from manager for meeting challenging, time-sensitive deadlines.
