Description Blood Bank Nurse (RN) Range: 2P1. Are you tired of acute care but would like to make a difference? The Stanford Blood Center (http://bloodcenter.stanford.edu) is seeking part-time RNs for multiple positions on weekend days. This is perfect opportunity to supplement your income. We offer a beautiful new environment with the opening of our state-of-the-art Hillview Center in Palo Alto, as well opportunities to work in other centers and on mobile blood drives. Duties include: interviewing prospective blood donors and perform necessary tests to determine donor eligibility. Perform venipunctures for blood donations and related samples. Carries out physician orders and performs isovolemic procedures. Recognizes and treats donor reactions. Must maintain knowledge of State and Federal regulations regarding blood donation make final determination regarding donor eligibility. Performs quality control procedures and maintains necessary records. Helps set up donor area equipment. Directs the daily work of others. Travels to mobile collection sites in surrounding communities; may be required to work in confined or limited space. Must comply with governmental regulations and University and Blood Center policies; must observe and support good health and safety practices.


QUALIFICATIONS: California R.N. or L.V.N. license and annual CPR certification required. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; English required, bilingual preferred. Must maintain punctuality, good attendance and flexibility to work hours when donors are scheduled. Should be able to prioritize tasks, troubleshoot unplanned situations and complete duties with little or no supervision. The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as standing or walking for prolonged periods of time, or frequent bending or stretching. Frequently lifts and carries moderately heavy boxes (15-25 lbs.) of supplies or equipment; lifting of donors with assistance may occur infrequently. The work requires above average dexterity and stamina as well as the ability to distinguish basic colors (i.e., red, yellow, purple, green, and buff). The lighting, heating, and ventilation of the work area may vary according to the location of the blood collection site. May be required to work in confined or limited space. Tasks involve exposure to blood, body fluid or tissues. The potential for spills or splashes of blood, body fluids or tissues exists in job related task and there is risk of exposure to contagious diseases, infections, and accidental needle sticks. Employee is expected to take universal precautions.
