I'm not against anyone making money to survive in this day & age, as long as it's honest & not misleading the Customer (This means YOU).
Here are some facts to consider:
1- Any job above $ 500.00 Including Labor And Materials must be performred by a Licensed Contractor. This way the CSLB can protect the consumer from Fraud.
Check the CSLB website for any informatuion regarding unlicensed contractors posing as "professionals". this is the link: http://www.cslb.ca.gov/
2- Most Handymen, Do not Carry Liability Isnurance or Worker's Compensation, Putting you (The consumer) at a Higher Risk of a lawsuit (EVEN BY THE HANDYMAN HIMSELF OR HIS HELPERS/SUPPLIERS!).
3- Most Handyman services Lack the in-depth knowledge of Roofing, Window & Door installation,Carpentry in General, Framing, Plumbing, Electrical and So On, just because a Handyman can install a Door Lock does not mean He knows how to Install or replace a Door properly.
4- A Licensed Contractor carries a Bond which can be Tapped into for Lack of Expertise (poor workmanship or abandonement of job). How can you possibly go after a Handymkan? only by Small Claims Lawsuit, which might mean You'll never recover anything.
