Camp Galileo for entering K-5th graders combines art, science, and outdoor activities with fun camp traditions to create a summer day camp experience kids love. Voted “Best Camp for Kids” in Bay Area Parent and “Best of the Bay” in San Francisco Magazine, Camp Galileo is a great place for staff. With curriculum developed by experienced Galileo instructors in partnership with The Tech Museum of Innovation and Klutz, we give staff the best tools and preparation for success. Camp Galileo’s Lead Instructors work in the four specialty areas below. Galileo will provide both curriculum and training to set you up for success—all you need is a passion for one of our subject areas and experience leading kids!
Art Lead Instructor:
Instruct groups of campers entering 1st - 5th grades in art curricula created by professional educators who have extensive experience teaching in Galileo’s programs. Our Art program uses various media while teaching campers about master artists like Calder, Warhol, Rodin and Roy Lichtenstein. This summer’s program themes include Ancient Egypt, Psychedelic‘60s and Shape It, Sculpt It!
Science Lead Instructor:
Instruct groups of campers entering 1st - 5th grades in science curricula developed in coordination with The Tech Museum of Innovation. Curricula use The Tech’s “Design in Mind” approach, emphasizing small group work and hands-on activities. This summer’s program themes include Space Explorers, Amusement Park Science and Crime Solver Scientists.
Outdoor Lead Instructor:
Instruct groups of campers entering 1st - 5th grades in craft activities and outdoor games with a twist. Klutz, author of children’s activity books, provides Camp Galileo’s craft activities including building paper airplanes, yo-yoing, and bracelet-making among many others. You will also lead non-traditional games like Chicken Impossible, three-legged soccer and the famous Camp Galileo game, Waterball!
Kindergarten Lead Instructor:
Instruct our Kindergarten campers in one or more of the subject areas (Art, Science, and/or Outdoors). Kindergarten Lead Instructors must have early childhood education experience, either as a teacher or leading kids in other positions.
Locations: Belmont, El Cerrito/North Berkeley, Fremont, Hillsborough, Lafayette, Los Altos, Menlo Park, Oakland—Rockridge, Palo Alto, San Jose (Almaden & Evergreen), San Francisco, Saratoga, and Sunnyvale
Class size: 16 campers per class (8:1 ratio for 1-5th grade, 6:1 for Kindergarten)
Dates: 5 - 7 week positions available June 19th - August 4th (depending on location)
Hours: 8am-4pm, Mon-Fri
Requirements: experience instructing elementary-aged children; college degree or equivalent experience
