Description The Santa Clara University Law School Computer Services Department’s AV Media Support Specialist is responsible for meeting all the audio and visual needs of the Law School faculty, staff, and students (a population of approximately 100 faculty and staff as well as approximately 1000 students). The majority of audio/visual support will occur in one of the Law School’s four large classrooms, three small seminar rooms, Moot Court room, and/or law library conference rooms in three separate buildings on campus.

This is a full-time position, reporting to the Assistant Dean of Law Technology and the Associate Dean.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Install and setup audio/visual equipment as needed as well as audio/video tape various Law School functions and events;
• Maintain and support audio/visual equipment in the Law School’s classroom and conference room settings;
• Trouble shoot and resolve software, hardware and networking problems with audio/visual equipment, including projectors and videotaping equipment;
• Install and configure audio/visual software on individual faculty, staff, and student desktops/laptops;
• Provide basic level training as well as more advanced support and instruction for faculty and staff in the use of audio/visual equipment;
• Collaborate with the larger University Media Services Department and Information Technology Department to resolve audio/visual problems as well as advance the audio/visual needs of the Law School;
• Review, recommend and purchase audio/visual software and hardware for the Law School;
• Keep abreast of all new technologies that could benefit the Law School;
• Assist with testing and evaluating new audio/visual software, hardware, and peripherals for possible adoption and use at the Law School;
• Convert and upload audio/visual streams for delayed broadcast on the web;
• Create graphics to accompany audio/visual postings on the web;
• Assist in technology planning for the Law School;
• Write and maintain “how to” documentation of audio/visual equipment as well as reports detailing purchase, warranty, maintenance, and problem histories;
• Provide backup pc support for other members of the Law School Computer Services Department as assigned by PC Support Manager; and
• Perform other duties as required and assigned by the PC Support Manager and the Assistant Dean of Law Technology.


Qualifications

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in computing or related disciplines from an accredited institution is required. Additionally, at least 2 years of audio/visual support experience in a higher education environment is strongly preferred. Excellent working knowledge of the following is required:

• Projectors, desktop and laptop computers (both PC and Mac based), and printers;
• Classroom layouts, sound, lighting, curtains, etc.;
• Video, sound and data software, hardwares, and links;
• Wireless connectivity;
• Windows and Mac operating systems;
• Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Fireworks softwares as well as presentation softwares, including MS Powerpoint.

Additionally, experience with the following is highly desired:

• contacting and maintaining close vendor relationships;
• designing (or re-designing) classroom audio/visual layouts;
• managing classroom audio/visual projects; and
• creating user friendly documentation and instruction.

Finally, the successful candidate will possess the following skills:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience;
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills;
• Ability to manage student assistants;
• Ability to prioritize and handle many assignments at the same time;
• Strong organizational skills;
• Willingness to take initiatives and ability to work independently without direct supervision;
• Strong training/teaching skills and eagerness to help faculty and staff accomplish goals in a supportive, collegial, and timely manner.
