Small architectural firm is enjoying a good backlog of work, with many interesting projects. Excellent opportunity to gain a wide range of experience and grow with our firm.

We are a two Architect firm specializing in small commercial, new single family residential and major remodel/addition/facelift/restoration projects. A commitment to quality design, understanding the permit process and clear construction documents are factors leading to successful projects. Increases in client and contractor referrals are reasons for hiring staff and moving the office into a larger space. Growth and success are in the near future.

Our office is small and works on multiple projects, thus requiring the flexibility to work independently and as a member of a team. Opportunity to learn from experience in all areas of architecture as can only be learned in a small firm. Quality of work comes first.

We are looking for two individuals to work with the architects towards the goal of becoming self sufficient and fluent in the entire architectural process from Predesign through Construction Administration. Initially, there will be a focus on the Construction Document phase. Project design includes contemporary and traditional aesthetics.

A person who is interested in small to medium scale projects, complex remodeling, structures and the defining details will enhance their skills in this informal but fast-paced practice.

Skills/Qualifications:
• Fluent in CADD, we prefer VectorWorks but also use AutoCAD, Sketchup, RenderWorks;
• BA or Technical degree in Architectural Design, Drafting or a related field a plus;
• Extremely detail oriented and demonstrated organizational skills;
• Interpersonal skills, Communication and People skills and problem solving a must;
• Self starter, intelligent, a fast learner that has the desire for professional improvement;
• Organized and able to multi-task (able to work on several projects concurrently);
• Able to implement systems to streamline productivity;
• Computer savvy, excellent computer skills including keyboard (typing, shortcuts, etc), Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Photoshop and Internet savvy - we do a lot of research via the internet;
• Excellent command of the English language – written and spoken;
• Very clear understanding of light wood frame, Type V (residential) construction and the ability to translate that into design and technical drawings;
• Knowledge of residential structural systems, MEP systems, Title 24;
• Ability to prepare comprehensive Construction document package including site plans, floor plans, exterior elevations, bldg. sections, schedules, utility plans, interior elevations, details, etc. and most importantly how to properly dimension and cross reference;
• Willing to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as necessitated by project deadlines;
• Project Management and or Construction background a plus;
• Familiarity with architectural drafting conventions.

The key expectations and role are as follows:
• Under close supervision and direction, prepares CADD drawings and utilizes other design tools based on simple design drawings of others, including elevations, sections and details;
• Under the supervision of a architect, works on small scale design projects;
• Incorporate redlines into plans and produces construction details;
• Assists with Bid and Construction Phase services;
• Prepares 2D and 3D presentation drawings and builds project models;
• Expresses an interest in learning quality and design standards and requests guidance with respect to incorporating the standards in their work;
• Extensive knowledge of 3D is not required, but the ability to learn a new system, along with the desire for more knowledge is imperative for this position.

Our office is located in the West Portal area of San Francisco and is located at a Muni train stop.

This full time position is available immediately. Salary based on experience. Assistance with IDP program.
