| This offering is an awesome Antique Wheelchair made by The Gendron Wheel Company in the 1940s during the President Roosevelt FDR Era! As you can see from the pictures, this awesome wheelchair is made using solid Oak wood and a beautifully woven Wicker!
Look at the detailing of this great chair! Notice that it's not your typical cheap antique wheelchair! This is a very high quality made 3-wheeled wheelchair that would make a great looking accent piece for any living or family room. Or if you know someone who is a doctor, this would make an awesome conversation piece for their office! I should also mention that the picture I've included of it reclining only shows it all the way down, it can be stopped at about 6 or 7 other positions on the way down. Also note that the solid oak foot pedestal lifts up so that you can put your feet on the floor if you want.
The background story for this wheelchair is that my wife and I found it in an antique store in the Shenandoah Mountains in Virgina way back in 1984. We bought it and disassembled it and sent it home in 3 different boxes...then reassembled it when we got it back home in California! We really hate to get rid of it, but now 22 years later, we have moved into a smaller home and we just don't have room for this neat item to be on display any longer. We paid about $500 for this chair plus the shipping costs 22 years ago!!! Now our loss is your gain! We are firm on our price of only $275, as we have been offered $250 by a local antique store, and you know they are going to put in their store for about $595, so we think $275 is a win-win for both us and the new owner!
To validate the age of this great chair, below is an excerpt from the following website about the manufacturer, Gendron Wheel Company: http://www.toledosattic.org/details.asp?did=42
". . .In 1925, The American-National Company was established. It became a holding company for Toledo Metal Wheel, National Wheel and American Wheel. Gendron Wheel became a subsidiary of American-National in 1927. For the next eleven years, American-National, Toledo, and Gendron products were manufactured in the Gendron plant which covered about one square block at St. Clair, Superior, Jackson and Adams streets in downtown Toledo, Ohio. At their peak, between 3000 and 4000 people were employed. American- National, Toledo and Gendron products were sold under the trade names of Pioneer, Skippy, Express, Reliance, Hi-Speed, Hi-Way, Speed King, Sky King, American, National, Streamline, etc. Each company had their own products and catalogs. In 1941, with the advent of World War II, children's vehicles were discontinued to concentrate on hospital equipment including wheelchairs and wheeled stretchers."
