Title 4/22: 4/22-4/22: Protect urban wildlife for Earth Day (haight ashbury)
Category Clothing & Apparel : Services & Stores
Created 03/15/06
Description Help protect urban wildlife while shopping for hip used clothing at a bargain! In celebration of Earth Day, all proceeds from Buffalo Exchange’s Dollar Day Sale benefit The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation's largest animal protection organization. All sale items offered for one dollar each on April 22 will go to Wild Neighbors™, the Urban Wildlife Program of The HSUS. Wild Neighbors™ promotes means for resolving conflicts between wildlife and humans and cultivates an understanding and appreciation for those wildlife species commonly found in cities and towns. Subscribe to Wild Neighbors News, the newsletter of The HSUS’ Urban Wildlife Sanctuary Program. If you’re a property owner or a community organization, you can apply for the Urban Wildlife Sanctuary Program and join others who share your concern and compassion for wildlife. For questions about Wild Neighbors™, email wildlife@hsus.org.

Give your furs back to the animals! Now through Earth Day, bring your real and faux fur apparel, including fur trims, fur accessories (such as hats, gloves, and muffs), and shearling to your local Buffalo Exchange and let us know it’s a donation for The Humane Society. Please try to limit faux fur donations to smaller trim pieces. Since your donation is not being purchased by Buffalo Exchange, condition is unimportant. The furs are used as bedding to comfort orphaned and injured wildlife. Read The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) article, "Coats for Cubs Doubles the Return to the Animals." If you want to claim a tax deduction, please mail your fur directly to The Humane Society of the United States, 2100 L Street NW, Washington, DC 20037. To spread the word about this program, print a PDF of The HSUS pamphlet, “Give Fur Back to the Animals.” To stay on top of the latest issues affecting animals, subscribe to HUMANElines, a weekly action alert from The HSUS and the Fund for Animals. For questions about Coats for Cubs, email furfree@hsus.org.

The Humane Society of the United States is the nation's largest animal protection organization representing more than 9.5 million members and constituents. The non-profit organization is a mainstream voice for animals, with active programs in companion animals and equine protection, disaster preparedness and response, wildlife and habitat protection, animals in research and farm animal welfare. Buffalo Exchange is unique because clothing and accessories are bought, sold and traded directly with store customers. Used clothes can be traded for any item in the store, including home items, jewelry, and new clothing. The ever-changing inventory includes designer wear, basics, vintage, jeans, leather, and one-of-a-kind items. As of Feb 20, 2006, the resale clothing store chain has 26 stores and 5 franchises in 11 states, with $40 million a year in sales.
