Weekend Figure Drawing Marathon


March 11 & 12 Saturday and Sunday 9am-5pm




Immerse yourself in an intensive two day figure drawing experience. Drawing from a live model we explore form, perspective, tonal value, proportion and the relationships of scale within the rendition of the figure. The intensity of this workshop is particularly helpful to beginning students in reaching a new i8level of development. Constructive evaluations of student work throughout the weekend serve to improve visual awareness by illustrating strengths and identifying areas that need attention.


Workshop is open to all levels.




Instructor


Angelo Grova MFA in sculpture from Rutgers University, is the owner of Michaelangelo Studios in Santa Cruz, and is recognized for his monumental sculptures. He has taught art extensively, including stone carving, bronze casting and drawing. His work has been commissioned internationally and in the San Francisco Bay Area. Local commissions include a sculpture for the Santa Cruz City Hall, the fountain at Plessey Semiconductor Building in Scotts Valley and the bronze bell for Porter College at UCSC.

Weekend Figurative Painting Workshop


Time: March 18 & 19 Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm


Fee: $200


Learn to paint expressive oil portraits both clothed and nude. The individuality and style of each artist is addressed while working in a loose gestural style, with emphasis on value in planar construction and intense use of color. The class will focus on the development of the head plus the figure. Prior experience in figure painting and portraiture helpful, but patient beginners are always welcome.




Instructor- Michele Giulvezan-Tanner B.F.A and MA University of Illinois.


Experienced Art Instructor Grammar through University level, has exhibited in many Museums and Galleries throughout California, Missouri, and Illinois . Open Studio Artist.

Figure Sculpture Weekend Workshop


Time: Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26, 10am to 4pm.


Class Description:


Learn to sculpt the figure from life. Using the basic materials of clay and wax, you will learn how to translate the figure into the modeled form. Emphasis will be placed on capturing the gesture of a pose and expressing it in your personal style. Beginners as well as more experienced artists are welcome.




Materials List:


-One 25-lb. bag of ceramic clay. Available at most art stores.


-One 12" by 12" (or larger) plywood base. Scrap plywood is fine. Most hardware and lumber stores sell this cheaply.


-Set of clay tools.




Instructor: Deborah Simpson. B.A. UC Berkeley; M.A. San Jose State University. Exhibitions in California include the Pacific and Long Beach Art Leagues, and the Artworks, Sasoontsi, and MichaelAngelo galleries.

Weekend Jewelry Workshop




Title: MAN’S WORK


Tired of scouring the stores looking for something unique for someone special? Join this workshop and make a beaded necklace or bracelet with your own hands. This three hour workshop is structured especially for males. Supplies are included in the fee. You will design and create a single strand 24” or 30” necklace or a single strand bracelet. You will learn how to create a design, how to string the beads and how to attach the clasp. At then end of the class you also create a unique label to go with your handcrafted gift.




Instructor- Jackie Iddings has been making jewelry since 1987. With the exception of a class at Cabrillo Community College she is self-taught. Today her work consists of both beadwork and fabricated silver jewelry.
