3/25: 3/25-3/25: The Embodied Life: The Feldenkrais Method® and Meditation

Title 3/25: 3/25-3/25: The Embodied Life: The Feldenkrais Method® and Meditation
Category Health & Medical : Sitting
Created 03/15/06
Description On Saturday, March 25, 10am - 5pm, Russell Delman will lead us in a day of unique movement lessons known as the Feldenkrais Method.

The Feldenkrais Method is renowned as an ingenious approach to human learning that investigates movement through extremely diverse, neurologically based movement sequences. Moshe Feldenkrais, Russell’s teacher, devised perhaps the most complete grouping of movement explorations, (collectively known as "Awareness Through Movement®"), known to humanity. As the name implies, the purpose of these lessons is to deepen our capacity for awareness as our movement potential expands. People of all levels of movement capacity can all learn from these interesting and enjoyable lessons.

Though non-strenuous, these lessons are remarkably effective in influencing both habits of movement and attention. Although known for his profound effect on many kinds of motor problems and healing, many people don’t realize that Feldenkrais’ deep interest was in the potential for human beings to become free from self-limiting habits. He used movement to influence all levels of the human being including patterns of feeling and thinking.

In this workshop we will emphasize the use of these movement lessons to enhance our sitting practice. Through becoming more aware of our skeletal support and freeing the pelvis-back connection perhaps we can develop a more comfortable and dynamic 'seat'. We will also explore approaches to breathing that help clarify and enhance this essential function. In addition to investigating a deeper embodiment of our meditation and enhancing mobility, we will also explore dealing with pain, discomfort and movement limitations.

The movement lessons will be supplemented by short meditations to help directly connect our learning to sitting practice. Please join us for a day of deep, enjoyable and unique inquiry. Russell is offering this day as a benefit workshop for Spirit Rock Meditation Center.

Cost $60 - $90, sliding scale, plus a donation to the teacher, code RD1B06. To register, please visit our website at: http://www.spiritrock.org/ and find the Calendar listing for March 25.
