I am selling my 1999 Suzuki GS500E. You are wondering why the bike is so cheap. The bike has a bad valve, with only about 50% compression in one cylinder. I was going to sell this bike to a friend, had it checked out, and found this problem. Everything else was fine in the check-up. The bike has a new chain, and older tires. According to O'Hanlon MC in the city, it needs a valve job, which is at least $1000, and maybe more. However, it is a fetching yellow color, with mini-fairing!
This is not one of those postings where I try to convince you that the bike is easily fixable with parts from Kragen and an afternoon of your labor. However, if you have motorcycle mechanic skills, or if you are looking to build a bike for racing, if you can do the work yourself, save money and buy this bike. Actually, the bike runs pretty well as is, and according to the shop, will PROBABLY run ok for a while. So, buy it and fix it, race it, whatever. However you want to use it, just know that the bike needs maintenance.
