I love my Duc to death, but I’m ready for a change and I am looking to either sell it, or find someone with a supermoto or dualsport who wants to trade. KTM? Husqvarna? A DR650 or XR650, preferably super-moto’d? I’m open to ideas.
Current Kelley Blue Book retail value is $4,290, and I have recently seen other CRs in the Bay Area ranging from $3,300 to $6,000. None of the ones I have seen have the range of modifications or recent major investment in service and maintenance. This one is about as close to ‘needs nothing’ as you’re going to find.
This bike is one of the last of the classic, old-school Italian crotch rockets with an unbeatable combination of real-world performance, handling, style and mojo. I am the third owner, it currently has 31,0xx miles on it. Extensive modifications and the usual obsessive attention throughout include:
PERFORMANCE
• Yoshimura carbon fiber slip-on exhaust system, with a custom high-mount setup by Moto-GeneX. A completely unique, one-of-a-kind monoposto look, and outstanding sound. One of the healthiest-sounding non-SBK Ducatis you’ll hear.
• Keihin FCR 41mm flatslide carburetors
• Cored airbox with K&N filter
• K&N crankcase breather
• Dynatek coils
• Lindemann Racing fork kit
STYLE/APPEARANCE
• Carbon fiber front fender.
• Constructors Racing Group swiveling bar-end mirrors (stock mirrors available)
• Paulimoto gold billet perforated clutch cover (carbon fiber closed clutch cover available)
• Sargent seat, upholstered in Griptex, with Italian flag and paint-matching red welt extras. Includes fold-out cargo hooks and a sealed under-seat canister.
• Hugger passenger seat cover, painted red to match the rest of the bike.
• Passenger footbegs and brackets eliminated.
• Motowheels gold billet oil filler plug
• Motowheels drilled aluminum countershaft sprocket cover
• Zero Gravity tinted windshield.
• Legend bike cover
• Haynes and LT Snyder Desmodue shop manuals. Factory workshop, parts and owners manuals. Several Ducati books and wearables, too.
RECENT MAJOR SERVICE/MAINTENANCE
• Camshaft drive belts replaced 8/04 at 24k miles.
• DID chain and AFAM front and rear sprockets (15T/39T) replaced at 25k miles.
• Rear brakes replaced at 25K; front brakes replaced at 30K
• Battery replaced at 25k miles (12/04)
• Ducati OEM clutch, Yoyodyne clutch slave cylinder and updated Superbike voltage regulator replaced at 26k miles (1/05)
• Forks serviced and steering head bearings replaced at 26k miles; fork seals and bushings replaced at 30k miles
• Full 30,000 mile service done by Desmoto, including valve and drive belt adjustment, and full adjustment of all carburetor settings. (Most Ducatis for sale are due for service, but this one has had it done recently and has many miles to go before it is due again. This represents at least $500 savings on what you’d spend on any Ducati that is due for service now.)
• BRAND NEW Michelin Pilot Power tires (160/60/17 F, 170/70/17 R) replaced at 30.9k miles. The little nubs aren’t even worn off yet.
POTENTIAL PURCHASERS: I’m selling it because I want to, not because I need to. I’m open to offers, but the amount of recent work that’s been done to it makes it well worth the Blue Book price. Please don’t waste your time or mine with stupid lowball offers. Cash only.
POTENTIAL TRADERS: Within the supermoto/dualsport universe, I’m pretty open, though I used to have a DR650S that I really liked a lot. I’m looking for a clean, complete, well-maintained bike that is worth around about what mine is. No incomplete bikes or salvage titles, please.
