Well, so I exaggerate a little. Still, it's a 3-level, 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath, single-family home in one of San Francisco's best neighborhoods (depending how you define best; edge of St. Francis Wood) near the West Portal shopping district.
Average-size room (11x13) with hardwood floors, mid-size closet, phone jack, cable, plenty of light, large windows facing wooded hillside with pine trees, eucalyptus, wildflowers. In the past, a queen-size bed, dresser, desk, chair, pet hyena all fit fine in there. Quiet room with no common walls to other bedrooms. Share bath with shower with one other person. Smallish hallway closet is exclusively yours.
Free parking on the street in front of the house is never a hassle.
Common areas all kept clean and uncluttered, with large living room and wood-burning fireplace, view to the ocean, comfortably furnished. Fully equipped kitchen (every gadget imaginable, except ones marketed by Ron Popiel), dining area, small downstairs hideaway with DVD/VCR/big screen TV. Garage offers extra storage space, along with second fridge for overflow edibles and drinkables, and a new washer/dryer. Gaze up the wooded hillside from a large patio adorned with hammock, park bench, gas BBQ, Weber grill, garden hose, tree stump, bundle of sticks.
Our roommate is departing, leaving behind one straight 40+ male self-employed writer-filmmaker and avid volleyball player; and one straight 40+ male newspaper editor who is an avid hiker/backpacker and amateur outdoor photographer.
Peaceful, very safe neighborhood and only a 5-block walk (past the fountain park up the street) to West Portal cafes, restaurants, CineArts multiplex theater, shops, post office, library, produce market and West Portal Muni (K, L or M trolleys get you downtown in 18 minutes while the #23, #43 buses stop less than a block from our front door).
There is a friendly, supportive atmosphere here, yet we're all independent and busy. Progressive, non-smoking household works well for easygoing people who are neat, responsible, considerate, have a sense of humor, at least young at heart.
