Here are the details and pictures of the common areas are here: http://electricrain.com/chunski/downstairs/ (ignore the last picture). I didn't get a picture of the room, but you can see it is the largest one on the layout picture (12'x18', 216 ft²).
-Rental cost of $625/month includes trash, water, heat, electric utilities, and DSL internet access
-I will provide toilet paper, paper towels, and laundry detergent
-Landline for the phone not included. The place is wired for multiple phone lines, so you could get service for $6 or $12 extra a month, depending on the service you want.
-Cable TV available, but not included in utilities. Can be split with other tenants.
-House is in North Oakland on Alcatraz Ave. between Shattuck and Telegraph. It's easily accessible by AC Transit lines 40 and 43, and the Ashby BART station is only 5 blocks away. The 40 goes to UC Berkeley and the 43 goes to Solano, downtown Berkeley, and downtown Oakland.
-2 sets of washers and dryers on premises
-Shared bathroom
-Shared kitchen with gas stove and living room
-2 other tenants: a professional in his forties, Tim, and Sam, a college student studying accounting. Tim enjoys music and DJs a radio show on Sunday nights. Sam plays golf most weekends. The atmosphere is mature, clean, friendly and quiet.
-Cats okay, other animals negotiable.
-2 windows
-Large 800 square foot workshop in the back yard for hobbies, artwork, or crafts, which can be utilized at your whim until we start converting it into an in-law about 6 months down the road -Large covered patio outside with a television and a barbeque for warm summer nights
-Plenty of storage for bikes
-Street parking available, driveway can hold 2 cars (but we'd have to coordinate so no one gets stuck)
-No smoking cigarettes inside, please
-Room is furnished with a bed, bed frame, and desks, but you are welcome to bring your own furniture if you like and we can get rid of this stuff for you.
-The Berkeley Bowl is very close by, so you don't have to deal with the hassle of parking there. Walgreens is close as well.
-Neighborhood is a mix of homeowners and renters, and is happily free of many of the crime problems of the blocks further south. Because it is on a major thoroughfare, we don't have much crime.
-Although the house is on a major thoroughfare, the entire space is pretty quiet because it is downstairs.
-We, the owners of this home, live in the upstairs duplex with 3 cats. I teach English to middle school students because it's way more fun than teaching undergraduates. I take trapeze classes in my spare time and I enjoy movies. My husband is a computer programmer and a nerd in every sense. He has a unibrow and plays World of Warcraft.
